Join us this Spring 2026 for 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting as we seek God together. As we focus on Sprinting Through the Line, we want to finish well by depending fully on Him.

This guide offers daily Scriptures and prompts to help prayer become a conversation with God. You may also choose to fast in a way that deepens your hunger for Him.

As we complete our NextSteps 2026 vision, we’re asking God to send 3 global partners, help us engage 2 neighbors, and see 1 neighborhood transformed. May this season stir our love for our Heavenly Father and strengthen our trust in Him.

If you’d like to receive Pastor Zack’s weekly video devotionals during this season, sign up for our News & Updates. Each Friday, he’ll share a short encouragement to help you pray and fast in whatever way you’re engaging; whether you’re walking a mile, sitting at your kitchen table, or praying over your lunch break. And if your inbox ever feels too full, you can quietly unsubscribe anytime, we’ll still see you on Sunday.

During this season of prayer, the elders want to hear from you!  We want to sense God’s Spirit guiding us as one united body of believers.  Throughout the 40 days of prayer, send in a written prayer or any feedback you may sense as you engage with God.  Anyone can participate by sending us an email at elders@sharethelife.org and share how God is on the move in our church through prayer!

FAQs

What is fasting? Fasting is to go without food for a period of time in order to intentionally seek God in prayer. We invite you to join us in fasting regularly during this special season of Prayer & Fasting by taking a step of fasting that makes sense for you.

How should I fast? During a season of fasting, you might set aside:

  • Your typical morning snack between meals to seek God in prayer for your neighbors, or
  • One meal a week (“breakfast on Mondays”) to seek God in prayer, or
  • One meal a day (“Lunch every day”) to seek God in prayer, or
  • Breakfast and lunch daily to seek God in prayer, or
  • Some other pattern or habit of fasting that positions your body’s hunger to remind yourself of your need for God.

The details matter less than the heart to seek God over and above the sustenance of food that our bodies crave.

What about fasting from other things? Abstaining is when we give something up besides food in order to seek God. This may also be helpful to consider as you seek God in prayer, alongside fasting. Examples could include: abstaining from touching my phone when I wake up until after I spend time seeking God in prayer and Scripture, or: abstaining from social media during Lent in order to become more sensitive to opportunities to pray for my neighbors.

What if I miss a day or two, or start late? Just pickup where you left off! There is no shame in jumping back in if you miss time for any reason. This season of Prayer & Fasting is an invitational opportunity to seek God together in a special, gracious way.

Why fasting? In the Scriptures, we see that proper fasting can help us to:

  • Pray powerfully & effectively – Ezra 8:21-23, Nehemiah 1:4-6, Daniel 9:3
  • Confess & repent – 1 Samuel 7:5-6, Ezra 9:5-15, Neh. 9:1-3, Joel 2:12-13, Daniel 9:3-6
  • Humble ourselves before God – Ezra 8:21-23
  • Live in righteousness & generosity – Isaiah 58:6-8
  • Understand God’s leading & Guidance – Isaiah 58:11a
  • Live with deep satisfaction – Isaiah 58:11
  • Build & restore God’s Kingdom work among the generations – Isaiah 58:12
  • Resist temptation and fight evil – Matthew 4:1-3
  • Focus corporate times of worship – Acts 13:2
  • Discern God’s leading for ministry, by the work of the Holy Spirit – Acts 13:1-3
  • Commit to the Lord the leadership of the Church – Acts 14:19-23
